Codex adds GPT-6 models, Guardian context, and voice task controls

OpenAI’s Codex 0.157.0 release adds GPT-6 Sol and Luna to Codex, including Amazon Bedrock support and migration prompts for older models. The release also improves the session interface and makes several remote and background workflows easier to resume.

GPT-6 models and session controls

Codex 0.157.0 adds GPT-6 Sol and Luna and includes migration prompts for older model selections. The release notes also call out Amazon Bedrock support, giving teams another deployment path to test when moving Codex workflows to the new model family.

Fullscreen transcripts are now enabled by default. Users can extend transcript selections with Shift-click, and an f shortcut can fork a conversation opened in another app while preserving drafts and queued prompts.

Background and remote workflows

Codex now starts its background server automatically for eligible interactive sessions. When server settings are incompatible, the release offers recovery choices instead of leaving the session without a clear next step.

The /import command is available in remote sessions and local background-server sessions. Codex also preserves active voice conversations when switching threads, which helps keep a long-running session from being lost during navigation.

Codex CLI 0.160.0 follow-up

The 0.160.0 release adds a keyboard-accessible Show more control for older tasks in the agent command center. It also lets users start a session outside a project with workspace defaults when policy permits, then restores saved permissions when that session resumes. Its new Guardian review option can retrieve earlier user instructions and include context from agent handoffs; this capability is opt-in.

Fullscreen transcript selection also gains middle-click paste in supported local Linux X11 terminals. The release notes list this terminal-specific behavior alongside the agent-command-center and session changes, so do not assume the middle-click feature applies to other platforms or terminal backends.

DevDay follow-up: voice and the agents view

OpenAI’s September 29 DevDay recap separately announced that the Codex CLI can start and steer tasks by voice. It also described a new /agents view for delegating work and tracking multiple tasks, plus improvements to prompt editing, session resumption, worktrees, and the terminal display for longer sessions. The recap does not identify a CLI version for these announcements; check the installed build and current Codex documentation before relying on a particular feature.

Terminal and display polish

The release improves terminal rendering with Unicode bullets, checkboxes, aligned equations, and optimization notation. These changes are small, but clearer output matters when a coding agent’s transcript is also the primary review surface for commands, diffs, and tool results.

As with any CLI release, pin the version in CI and test the model migration, Bedrock credentials, background-server lifecycle, remote /import, and transcript behavior before rolling it across unattended environments.
