OpenAI DevDay 2026 brings Codex Cloud, code review, and Security Cloud

OpenAI’s September 29 DevDay recap announced new Codex Cloud, Code Review, and Codex Security Cloud workflows. Together they move coding tasks, pull-request review, and repository scanning into managed cloud environments, with availability and workspace controls varying by feature.
Continue coding from desktop, web, or mobile
Codex Cloud lets developers start and continue coding tasks from desktop, web, or mobile. OpenAI’s release notes describe reusable environments containing project repositories, tools, and dependencies. Each task receives an isolated workspace and can continue while the developer’s computer is asleep.
Open-source, model-agnostic AI coding assistant for VS Code and JetBrains
The ChatGPT Business release note says workspace Codex cloud-access settings apply and points users to current setup and plan documentation. Check those settings and the plan-specific access details before moving a repository into a cloud task.
Review pull requests in the desktop app
The new Code Review experience in the ChatGPT desktop app shows summaries and diffs and lets developers ask Codex about potential issues before sharing feedback on GitHub pull requests or GitLab merge requests. With automatic reviews, Codex can take a first pass in the cloud while the developer is away. OpenAI’s recap says Code Review is available on all plans; verify the feature in the current desktop app before changing an existing review process.
Scan repositories with Codex Security Cloud
Codex Security Cloud can scan entire GitHub repositories on demand or on a schedule and continue checking new commits. OpenAI says Codex investigates findings, removes duplicates, and prepares fixes in the cloud. The announcement also says the service includes access to models offered through Daybreak Blue without a separate Daybreak application.
OpenAI lists Codex Security Cloud for Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users on desktop and web. Treat generated fixes as proposals: review the evidence, inspect diffs, and keep repository branch protections and human approval in place.
