OpenAI announced monthly API credits for eligible ChatGPT Pro and Business subscribers on October 28. The benefit is claimed through billing settings and applies to paid API usage in a linked API organization, not to ChatGPT usage or signed-in Codex limits. Monthly credit amounts
OpenAI's developer guide lists these monthly amounts:
- Pro: $100 for Pro 100, $200 for Pro 200, and $500 for Pro 500.
- Business Standard: $20 per paid seat.
- Business Premium: $100 per paid seat, pooled across the workspace and capped at $500 per monthly billing cycle.
Business workspaces billed annually upfront receive the annual grant in one issuance. The guide says that grant expires at the end of the annual billing cycle. (https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/chatgpt-api-credits)
Eligibility and claiming
The subscription must be active, paid, and at least seven days old. Free trials, complimentary subscriptions, and ChatGPT Enterprise do not qualify. The subscriber or a Business workspace owner must link an API organization they own; the ChatGPT and API accounts used in the flow must use the same email address. (https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/chatgpt-api-credits)
The benefit can be claimed from ChatGPT billing settings or API Platform billing. The first grant is prorated for the time remaining in the current billing cycle. Later grants are issued when the eligible subscription renews, and unused credits expire at the end of each cycle rather than rolling over. What the credits do not change
The credits cover paid API Platform usage billed to the linked organization. OpenAI explicitly says they do not increase ChatGPT or signed-in Codex usage limits, and Codex usage through API keys is not supported by this benefit. Treat API credits and subscription usage allowances as separate programs. (https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/chatgpt-api-credits)
