What Cursor Router changes
According to Cursor’s changelog, Cursor Router:
- Classifies each request and routes it to an appropriate model (Cursor describes this as routing across “frontier” models for hard tasks and “price-efficient” models for the rest)
- Adds three optimization modes when you choose Auto:
- Intelligence (optimize for frontier quality)
- Balance (optimize for strong everyday quality)
- Cost (optimize token spend while reaching the best available quality)
Cursor also notes that Balance and Intelligence bill at the routed model’s rate, and that the routed model can be shown or hidden.
Admin controls (Teams + Enterprise)
Cursor’s changelog lists several team controls for Cursor Router, including:
- Enable Cursor Router per team or group
- Restrict which optimization modes members can use
- Set a default mode
- Allow/block specific underlying models
Cursor also states the router is on by default for Teams plans, and that Enterprise admins can enable it from the dashboard.
Availability
Cursor says Cursor Router is available across desktop, web, iOS, CLI, and the Cursor SDK.
