Cursor’s July 2026 update introduces Side Chats for tangents, full transcript search across agent runs, redesigned repo/project pickers, and new Cloud Agent conversation hooks.

Cursor’s latest update (shown on the official Cursor changelog) adds three workflow upgrades that make long-running agent work easier to manage: Side Chats, transcript search, and more powerful pickers.

Side Chats: explore tangents without derailing the main agent
Cursor now supports Side Chats — a parallel agent chat you can open while keeping your main thread intact. Side Chats inherit context from the main chat and are meant for quick reading/search/clarification work, then can be @-mentioned back into the main thread when you want to pull results in.
According to Cursor, you can start a Side Chat via /side, /btw, or the plus button at the top of the chat panel.
Conversation Search across agent transcripts
Cursor also added Conversation Search in the Agents Window: use the command palette (Cmd+K) to search across conversation transcripts (not just names or PR numbers). Cursor says it builds a local index designed to scale to thousands of conversations.
Inside a conversation, Cursor also calls out Cmd+F search with match navigation and a match counter for long transcripts.
Redesigned project and repo pickers
Cursor redesigned its project/repo pickers so you can do more without leaving the picker, including creating projects and connecting GitHub/GitLab/Azure DevOps from the same flow. It also adds scoped search (This Computer vs Cloud vs Remote Machines) and consolidates remote options into a single searchable Remote Machines menu.
New Cloud Agent conversation hooks
In addition to existing hooks around tool execution and shell/file work, Cursor says Cloud Agents now support conversation-level hooks for observing and controlling prompts, responses, thinking, subagents, compaction, and turn completion. The changelog lists hooks such as beforeSubmitPrompt, afterAgentResponse, afterAgentThought, stop, and subagentStart.
